Occupy Oakland: Car Accident Provoked

An incident covered by helicopter, a person was hit by a car. From the helicopter video released online, there was no indication of how the person was hit by the car, however other video angles have surfaced revealing that the person provoked the incident. The person appeared to be walking in street, when a car approached and slowed down. The person then appeared to "hit" the car repeatedly, and would not move. Seconds later, the car charged forward while the person was in-front, knocking them down. Later emergency units responded, taking the injured person to the hospital. It is not clear if this person was a protester part of Occupy Oakland, and or the General Strike.

Some of the protesters and other individuals would argue that this may have been an attempt to discredit the protest.

Another angle.

This video below is a more in-depth look at the scene on ground, including someone throwing a drink onto the car, and a fight almost breaking out.

  1. Who has the right of way in the middle of an intersection? A car with the green light or a pedestrian crossing against the red light in the middle of the intersection?

The driver stopped but I guess the walkers thought they had a right to block the street and took offense. A normal person would have been walking on the sidewalk or at least moved out of the way when he saw the car coming but this guy thought he had the right to be there and the car didn't.

What purpose was served by acting like an idiot? Why didn't he just get out of the way?

What did the protesters accomplish with their childish little show of anti-establichment tantrum?
